Be Uplifted Inc holds regular Drain Bag Sewing Days to create breast cancer Drain Bags with pillows for breast cancer patients to use when they are recovering from their surgery.
What is a Drain Bag?
After a lumpectomy or mastectomy, many breast cancer patients are sent home still with their surgery drains in situ.
Patients must carry the surgical drains carefully around with them as these drains keep draining excess fluid from their surgical wounds. This can be for any time between a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
Because many breast cancer patients are discharged with nothing to carry their surgical drains in, and the drains can be not just uncomfortable and annoying, but a point of embarrassment for many patients, Drain Bags have been designed as a convenient way to carry the drains.
These shoulder bags are made of a soft fabric and can hold the surgical drains. Importantly they allow the breast cancer patient to get about without too much interference from the drains.
Be Uplifted Inc’s Beautiful Drain Bags
At Be Uplifted Inc our volunteers create gorgeous Drains Bags plus a matching pillow.
Our secret ingredient is love and care, as many of our volunteers are breast cancer survivors who know firsthand what a comfort a Drain Bag is.
Our Drain Bags are extra special because, with a matching pillow, they also offer breast cancer patients comfort and support to the draining areas. This small pillows can be used to keep the armpit a comfortable distance from where lymph nodes were removed and can be used at home, or in the car to keep the seatbelt a comfortable distant from the area operated on.
How To Get A Drain Bag
Be Uplifted Inc supplies our breast cancer Drain Bag to breast cancer patients at local oncology wards. We also have them available at our Op Shops and Shopping Centre Information Stalls.

How You Can Help
Creating Drain Bags and distributing them to breast cancer patients is just one way that Be Uplifted Inc supports local breast cancer patients. This activity reflects our charity’s goal to make a real, practical difference in the lives of local breast cancer patients, and our motto “people not research”.
