As you know, the talented volunteers at Be Uplifted Inc can create so many beautiful things.
They create stunning drain bags and matching pillows to comfort breast cancer patients after their surgeries.
Adorable crochet products, such as throw rugs, coat hangers and babies clothing.
And of course they dedicate hours to handcrafting the vibrant and practical shrugs that are so popular with breast cancer patients for not just keeping them warm while in hospital but also not getting in the way of the dreaded canulas.
And we forgot to mention the cancer caps – a must for breast cancer patients experiencing chemo treatment and hair loss.
So all up, a crafty bunch I think we can agree.
Which is why it was especially moving when this thank-you from a family member came across the desk of Wendy at Be Uplifted Inc.
This is a story that had to be shared.
There is often so much sadness surrounding breast cancer, and in times of loss and grief, it can be the little things that mean so much.
And these are one of those times.
It seems the crafty and especially kind volunteers at Be Uplifted Inc have created a new kind of wonderful – a memorial cushion.
Yes, this is no ordinary throw cushion.
So how did it come about? When a recipient helped by our breast cancer charity passed on, her family donated her clothing to the Be Uplifted Inc Op Shop.
The kind volunteers at Be Uplifted Inc wanted to say a very special thank you for this kind gesture, and so they gathered up her favourite tops to create this lasting memento for our former friend’s daughter, Rika.
This is a gift from the heart, made by people who under the breast cancer journey; one that requires no words.
Rika, moved by the gesture, had this to say about Be Uplifted Inc:
Thank you so much Be Uplifted for my beautiful cushion made out of one of my mom’s favourite tops. So so special to have this, what a wonderful gift! I miss my mom every second but this little cushion reminds me that she will always be with me.
Rika Clainos de Oliveira
So, clearly, this is no ordinary cushion.
Not only was it made with love of the Be Uplifted Inc volunteers, it was made using beloved pieces of fabric, and is going on to spend a life comforting a person who misses their mother.
